What do you need to know about this breed characteristics?

Содержание

First of all, we need to understand what these breed characteristics are. For an ordinary cat owner who acquired a purebred kitten in a cattery, who chose the breed for a long time, studied its features, it will not be a problem to describe how the cat differs from the one that runs on the street. It's possible to distinguish purely outwardly not only a purebred animal but also different breeds among themselves. These distinctive features are the breed characteristics.

  • body size and shape (skeleton, square, elongated, etc.)
  • paw size (short, long, etc.)
  • length, tail thickness
  • shape and set of ears (round, sharp, curved inward and outward)
  • the shape of a head (elongated, round, etc.), eyes, nose, etc.
  • color
  • length/structure of coat, its presence

Breed differences of Scottish Folds

It's worth mentioning that the Scottish Fold must have the characteristics inherent in its breed, and a pet should also have a document certifying its origin. Only in this case the cat will be considered a thoroughbred animal. It's similar to people; if you have a birth certificate or passport, then everything is in order.

Scottish Folds have a rectangular body, medium-high paws, a medium or long flexible tail, tapering towards the end. The head is round, the eyes are round, the nose is small, the ears are tightly pressed to the head (the more pressed they are, the higher the animal is valued). Scottish Straight differs from Fold only in the shape and set of their ears. The rest of the requirements are common.

There are lots of variations of coats and colors. There are both long-haired and short-haired Scottish Folds, and you can find many colors ranging from simple to complex.

Therefore, catteries are often engaged in a certain group of colors, because covering them all is simply impossible. And if you decide to buy a purebred kitten, then you need to do this in a specialized and certified cattery, where the breeder is working not only to improve the external data of the pets but also selects producers that meet the Scottish Fold character standard.

The character of Scottish Folds

What about the character? It's amazing: they are not aggressive, they are friends with almost all pets, they love every family member, they allow children to do various pranks, they practically do not meow, they're very affectionate, at the same time they are smart, quick-witted, with dignity, and are incredibly curious.

And a responsible, competent breeder will never use an animal that has “bad” traits in a breeding program. Because they are often inherited.

Therefore, before you buy a Scottish Fold kitten, carefully study the breed, talk personally with the breeder, make sure that together with the pet you receive a package of documents confirming its origin. If possible, visit the cattery and get to know your chosen cat personally. And then you will enjoy communicating with this wonderful creature for many years.
