Is it okay to walk a Scottish Fold?

Содержание

This question is commonly asked by future and present owners of Scottish Folds. I'd like to mention now that pedigree animals, in particular Scottish Folds, are domestic. They do not hunt mice and birds, and if they live next to them in the house, cats perceive them not as food but as members of the pride. Yes, if a fly comes into your house, then your fluffy pet can arrange a real hunt for it, but nothing more. And if you decide to buy a Scottish kitten, then be sure the animal feels good even without street entertainment, especially if he has everything needed for full development and growth at home.

Everything about walking

Walking in the fresh air is very useful for animals as for us. What's more, the horizons expand and the number of information increases; it's also beneficial in terms of time spent together, thus, it's good for the mental health of the animal.

Let's get started from the very beginning: the kitten needs to be taught to walk in the street gradually because the kittens, who were brought up and raised with their mother, haven't been on the street yet, it's a new experience, new impressions, and fears for them. Therefore, we advise you to take your pet out into the street only after the end of the adaptation period (one month after the move). This period comes only after the Scottish Fold completely trusts you, considers you as a friend and protector. The kitten needs a rabies shot, in case the cat faces another animal that might be a carrier of this terrible disease. The shot will protect both the cat and you from unwanted consequences.

I advise purchasing an adjustable leash in advance to fix it on the animal. It's better to start walking not far from home and for a short time holding the kitten in your arms. Gradually, the time and range can be increased, avoiding situations that can scare both Fold and Straight Scottish kittens.

If you have a private house, then the task is simplified, you can walk around the site and bypass your territory, acquainting the kitten with the world around. Over time, the Scottish Fold will get used to it, and you will be able to walk with him on a leash, but always in your presence.

What do you need to know about animal treatment?

If your cat has access to the street, then undoubtedly it is necessary to take care of its protection from various parasites. If with the usual schedule you treat your cat every 3-4 months, now it must be done monthly and not only from internal but also from external pests and don't forget about mites. And the drugs will need to be periodically alternated so that the cat won't become addictive, and the drugs will not reduce their effectiveness.

We also do not miss the observance of hygienic standards including washing their paws after a walk because there are a huge number of pathogens of various diseases on earth. Following these recommendations is important otherwise, the pet will have to visit a veterinary clinic.

Free range

I have a negative attitude towards this type of walk. It is unacceptable to let a purebred animal go out into the street without supervision. If the future owner says that he is planning free range for the purchased kitten, they will be refused. I don’t trust such owners. It's simply very dangerous: kittens from the cattery don't know what to expect on the street, they aren't aware that dogs are their enemies, and several of them can simply tire a poor animal down. At best you'll pay a decent price for the treatment of the Scottish Fold, and at worst you will lose your pet.

We raise kittens in our cattery so that they bring joy to their owners, and they shouldn't be abandoned to the mercy of fate by irresponsible people.
